❤️ What We Liked

You might think that Christmas, Black Friday or the end of the financial year may be marketers' favourite times of year.

But, at Content Smith we love an April Fools Day. April Fool’s is when marketers can flex their creative muscles.

And we have to give it up to Flourish Digital for making an April Fool’s prank so clever, that it got everyone in the office. And if that didn’t get you, one on this list sure will.

📌 What We Saved

Google Podcasts bids farewell. The tech giant's in-house podcast platform officially ceased operations last Tuesday.

Existing users will have until July to transfer any subscriptions remaining on the service. This decision, initially announced by Google in September, has been prominently displayed through shutdown notifications across both the Google Podcasts website and app in recent days.

The service heads to Google’s ever-growing graveyard of apps and services. What do you guys think, should Google quit trying to take over apps that have it down pat? Should Google stay in their lane?

At Content Smith, we think this shutdown is Google trying to refocus its energy because TikTok is becoming the new search engine.

📮 What We Shared

Facebook is using AI to find out what videos you want to watch! Meta is turbocharging its algorithm to enhance your video experience across Reels, Groups, and the main Facebook Feed. Facebook head Tom Alison unveiled this new approach and claimed significant increases in watch times during early tests on Reels.

Does this mean getting off our phones is going to be even harder? By incorporating AI into its recommendation engine, Meta aims to rival TikTok's success and keep users engaged. The switch to this new AI-powered engine signals a pivotal shift in Facebook's strategy, with plans to implement it across all video-centric features by 2026.

Do you think it’s ethical for big enterprises like Meta to use AI to get us even more hooked?
